The Quality Management System provides an integrated quality system framework for a residential aged care organization to provide safe, quality consumer-centred care and services.

When adapted and implemented as intended it consistently meets and exceeds the residential aged care accreditation requirements.

Since its development the system or parts have been purchased by over 700 aged care sites throughout Australia and has been sold for use in Ireland and China.

Organisations  using the system are a mix of:

  • metropolitan and rural sites
  • stand alone and multiple sites including in more than one state/territory
  • ethno-specific sites or sites where English is staff’s second language.

The Quality Management System has been developed with a focus on good governance, risk management, consumer centred care, evidence based practice, staff competence and continuous improvement.

The system identifies 16 processes for each major management and consumer care process.  Each process is guided by a policy statement, the steps to implement the policy and an expected process outcome. Procedures have been documented where further explanation is required to guide staff. Forms associated with each process or procedure have been controlled within the system.

Policies, processes and procedures have been referenced to the Residential Aged Care Standards, core Commonwealth regulations and best practice guidelines. Each manual is indexed and documents throughout the manuals have been document controlled and cross referenced.

Consistent safe, quality care and continuous improvement is achieved through planned performance review such as; internal assessments (audits), procedure and practice review, staff competency assessment, surveys, data analysis and quality indicators.
